Incentives for Green Hydrogen Production

23 January 2024

MASE initiates the public consultation process on the draft decree that will define tariff incentives for low-carbon hydrogen production.

The Ministry reminds operators that they have until Monday, March 4th, to submit observations and comments on the draft decree. This measure represents the primary initiative to support new investments in "hard to abate" industrial sectors and transportation, with the goal of introducing the use of renewable hydrogen, a fundamental energy vector for decarbonization.

The incentives are aimed at both electrolysis-based hydrogen producers and bio-hydrogen producers, derived from sources such as bioliquids, solid biomass, biogas, and biomethane.

"We are placing a strong emphasis on this vector, a step forward today to complete the framework of measures already activated under the PNRR," declares Minister Gilberto Pichetto.

"The government is highly focused on the hydrogen vector, and this awaited consultation takes us another step forward in completing the regulatory and incentive measures already activated within the PNRR framework," concludes the Minister.

On January 23rd, MASE and ENEA will organize an info-day on the calls launched under the Innovation Fund, which makes approximately 5 billion euros available for decarbonization and green hydrogen production initiatives.
